About Ukulele Picnic in Hawai`i
The sound of the musical instrument Ukulele is quite charming in various, wonderful ways. Its music has a healing effect by touching people's hearts and encouraging a deeper relationship between families and friends. For this event, people gather, go to a picnic with Ukuleles in their hands, and enjoy the music in a relaxing environment. This is Ukulele Picnic.
The Ukulele Picnic began in 2000 in Shonan, Japan. Since then, the founders have spread the mission to expand the love of Ukulele through concerts in Japan and throughout the world.
Kazuyuki Sekiguchi passionately introduced the Ukulele among the Japanese people, and Iwao--one of the best Ukulele player in Japan--serves as host for the event along with David Smith of Leiland and the group BEGIN. This event is free and open to the public. In recent years, turnout for this event has been over 10,000 people. Even though the event has grown in attendance, the peaceful nature of the event has been preserved.
The message of The Ukulele Picnic is "Peace", "Friendship" and "Love of Ohana (family)". For the first time, the Ukulele Picnic is crossing the Pacific Ocean to the land of Aloha and the home of the Ukulele to bring this message of love and family. The Ukulele Picnic in Hawaii will be presented through collaboration between Kazuyuki Sekiguchi and sumotori Konishiki as a means to bridge Japan and Hawaii, and to bring the message of love and familiy to both peoples. The event will be held on February 14, 2009 at Kakaako Waterfront Park in Honolulu.
All proceeds will be donated to "Ukulele Foundation of Hawaii" and "KONISHIKI Kids Foundation".
